I am not what you would call a Damien Rice fan, but I really like this song.
As far as I can recall, I found this song through the movie Closer - an excellent film which I totally recommend if you haven’t seen it yet. There is something so touching about this song, something a little eerie and beautiful at the same time.
I once had a great conversation about Damien Rice with a musician who was a much bigger fan of him than I am. It was a mild late evening in December, just a few days before Christmas, and the conversation took place in a dark alley behind a venue after the band’s show. I don’t recommend that anybody sneaks into dodgy backstreets to have conversations with rock stars, but to me, it’s a precious memory that always surfaces when I hear this song.
