A bit of a sad post today.
Chester Bennington is one of the music greats we have lost in recent years. Perhaps the world at large doesn’t know who he is, but to us fans, he was an amazing talent lost much too soon.
Chester was the voice of Linkin Park, and Linkin Park is a band I highly respect. While I haven’t always liked the direction their music has taken, they have done their own thing and have never been afraid to change.
I don’t yet know what the future holds for Linkin Park, but they have been and will remain a hugely influential band. Shortly after Chester’s death, I attended a music festival in Bristol. After the headliners finished their set, the group of 20-30 people who still remained inside the venue spontaneously starting singing along to Linkin Park’s “In The End” that was playing as background music. It was a magical moment. Nobody said we should sing along; it was a completely natural thing to do. Perhaps everyone there was a Linkin Park fan and even if everyone wasn’t, they joined in out of respect. It was a word-for-word sing-along tribute and one of the most touching moments of my life.
R.I.P. Chester.
